Fatherhood is a profound journey that begins with the arrival of a child and extends throughout a lifetime. It’s a role filled with love, responsibility, and countless moments of joy and challenge. Fathers play a vital role in nurturing, guiding, and shaping the lives of their children, offering support, encouragement, and wisdom along the way. They serve as role models, teaching important lessons through their words and actions. Fatherhood involves sacrifices, dedication, and the commitment to always be there for their children, through both the highs and lows of life. It’s a bond that grows stronger with time, enriching both the father and the child as they navigate the beautiful adventure of life together.
In a patriarchal society like Pakistan, the roles of fathers are largely seen as providers and earners. They are rarely encouraged to be nurtures, supporters and care givers in the family system. The ones who challenge these stereotypes are either not acknowledged or definitively not applauded for the efforts.
Different researches have revealed that promoting responsible fatherhood and by sensitizing men on positive masculinity can help prevent child marriages, domestic violence and contribute to an environment where women and children have access to their basic rights. Subsequently, this implies that ‘fatherhood’ should be given greater social credibility and attention for success of child health care, development and girls education interventions and to bring positive social change, and transformation within the society.
